The University of Central Lancashire is a major education provider in the North West of England and has over 2500 employees, an annual turnover of over £120m, over 500 undergraduate courses and approximately 250 taught postgraduate courses. The Epidemiology and Genetics Research Team, located in the School of Public Health & Clinical Sciences, has a particular focus on occupational health in the nuclear industry. UCLan acquired Westlakes Research Institute - which is the trading name of Westlakes Research Ltd and its wholly owned subsidiary Westlakes Scientific Consulting Ltd – in August 2005 and now has a campus on the Westlakes Science Park. Westlakes specialises in epidemiology studies involving ionising radiation and has over 20 years of experience in this field. Staff from Westlakes will be seconded to UCLan as consultants to work under the direction of the Head of the UCLan Epidemiology and Genetics Research Team on this project.
